We’re sure you can already feel it in the air… the temperatures have really dipped this week! While many of us enjoyed a balmy low-twenties weekend you’d come to expect from September, the last couple of days have been a stark contrast. And there’s more to come, so it’s definitely time to consider our winter maintenance services if you haven’t already.

What’s The Weather Forecast?

We received this report from the Met Office yesterday:

“Rain will work southwards across the country tomorrow bringing cold northerly winds with it. This markedly cold, showery airmass spreads across the whole of the UK by mid-week with hail and thunder in places, and there is the chance some of the showers could turn wintry over some Scottish mountains.”

It’s also been reported that night-time lows of just 3°C could be felt in the far north, with daytime temperatures barely making it into double figures in some places – including Inverness. Further south, daytime highs of 15°C are forecast for London. This sudden change in weather is due to a new front of cold air moving down from the Arctic circle over the British Isles.

Weather monitoring, as part of our winter maintenance services

Our Winter Maintenance Services

At Nationwide Gritting, it’s our job to monitor weather closely – especially when it’s being unpredictable like this! We pay for a service by the Met Office that is postcode specific, which allows us to give our clients an accurate, reliable service. Each morning, their data feeds into our system to identify the risk thresholds for our clients – operating on a traffic light system.

Risks can be Road Surface Temperatures, frost, ice or snow. The data is then analysed against each of our clients’ requirements and they will receive an automatic notification of the intended service that evening.

Being prepared is key, so we also look at long-range forecasts well ahead of inclement weather, so that we’re never caught out – and neither are you. Preventative gritting is often the best option for your business to prevent financial loss. We also offer snow clearance services for those days when gritting alone isn’t enough.

The cooler weather has come sooner than we thought, so if this has made you realise that you don’t have a plan of action for the colder months ahead, contact Nationwide Gritting – our team would be happy to discuss the best preparation and winter maintenance services for your business.
